Khudokormov D.A. et al. Ladle Inoculation as a Means for Reducing Malleable Iron Casting Rejects
In cupola melting it is difficult to provide consistency of iron's chemical composition, especially frequent are deviations in Si and C content. This results in rejects, especially in melting high-grade irons, in particular, white irons.
Investigations showed the possibility of eliminating the consequences of deviations in the chemical composition of white irons by means of counter-inoculation or ladle treatment of melt. There is no need to apprehend enhanced inclination to "turning gray" or inannealability that will be caused by the return of inoculated iron. Changes in the chemical composition caused by inoculants are negligible, and the inoculating effect will be lost during remelting.

Gushchin N.S. Residual Stresses in Bimetal Castings from High-Alloy Iron
The article presents results of investigations into the mechanism of occurring of casting stresses in bimetal blanks. It is shown that the level of residual stresses is substantially influenced by the kinetics of shrinkage processes in different irons used as materials for the outer and inner layers of a blank. Actual residual stresses in bimetal conical shrouds of coal-grinding mills have been determined.

Jun-O Choi et al. Impact of Slag from LD-Converter on the Collapsibility of Selfhardening Sodium Silicate Bonded Sand Molds

Kvasha F.S. et al. Possibilities of Stabilizing Unit Molding Sand Quality in Foundries. Part I
Consistent molding sand (MS) quality at a predetermined level - stabilization - is the main task of a sand preparation system, including attending personnel. In multinomenclature casting production the requirements on the adjustment of MS composition and properties become more difficult. The necessary conditions of stabilizing sand quality include good technical state of mixers, high level of preparing spent sand. Instability of sand quality is a common problem of all sand preparation systems with a low level of production process automation and inadequate skills of attending personnel. Later on additional techniques of sand stabilization without any significant reconstruction of sand preparation departments will be discussed.

Semyonov A.A. et al. Mastering Coldhardening Sands at OAO Oskol Metallurgical Machine-Building Plant
To improve the competitiveness of products at Oskol Metallurgical Plant they have reconstructed their foundry, including the molding shop using coldhardening sands for core and mold making. The article narrates about the difficulties of the reconstruction period, attained results and further plans.

Stig-Olof Nilsson Experience of Large Steel Castings Production by Vacuum Method

Volodin A.M. et al. Results of Initial Period of Mastering a 20-Ton Capacity DC Arc Furnace of the New Generation
At OAO Tyazhpressmash the reconstruction of an arc steel melting furnace included changing from alternating current to direct current. That allowed to expand the limits of charge size being used in combination with certain process techniques. The number of electrode breakages was reduced. Low metal loss allowed using chips, fine charge. The furnace performance continuously improves during its operation.

Tikhomirov M.D. The Basics of Casting Process Simulation. Important Features of Simulation Systems
The article continues the series of publications about the basics of casting process simulation. Time dictates the necessity of discussing this problem. Casting technology analysis systems are discussed in detail. The most characteristic representative of analysis systems are the numerical simulation systems for physical processes occurring in castings, with the aid of which they reproduce thermal, hydrodynamic, deformation and other processes on a computer.

Malykh L.Y. How to Evaluate the Intellectual Industrial Property
Method of evaluating the intellectual industrial property (IIP) are necessary for a business to profitably purchase or sell objects, for example, licenses for inventions or know- how. So far such methods are not developed to a sufficient degree. Using IIP can produce a high economic effect, if a business performs an objective marketing research on opportunities in the market sector of interest and substantiates the choice of an object for purchase.
