Baikov Kh. Kh. et al. Casting Production at FGUP Uralvagonzavod Production Association and its Development Prospects

Pirainen V. Y. et al. Science-and-Technology Centers a Way Develop the Metalcasting Industry

Semyonov V.I. et al. Phase and Structural Changes in Cast Iron upon Inoculation
The article discusses the mechanism of structural and phase changes in gray iron upon inoculation with ferrosilicon with subsequent three-dimensional crystallization with the purpose of resolving the main problem of controlling the structure of a crystallizing structural material. Mixed inoculants of the new generation in the form of a finely dispersed carbon mixture activated by high-temperature treatment and metal silicon have been developed.

Markov V.V. et al. Slanted Slot Plate Filter for Metal Melts
Use of a slanted slot plate filter for the filtration of metal melts to refine them has considerably enhanced the refinement efficiency. The shortcomings of mesh, grainy and liquid filters have been eliminated.

Kvasha F.S. Evaluation of Effect of Process Properties of Bentonite on Molding Materials Consumption
The article presents methods of comparative analysis of the quality of bentonites for casting production based on a balance model of clay-bonded molding sand. Examples of calculating specific consumption of basic molding materials when using bentonites with different process properties are given. Advantages of bentonites with high heat resistance and strength (bonding capacity) are emphasized.

Gruzman V. M. Gas Holes and Gas Evolution of Sand Mold
The article discusses the process of movement of water steam along mold surface during mold filling, as a source of gas hole formation in castings. It is shown that the condensate forming in the shaded areas of the mold surface remote from the melt feed point not only sends a stormy stream of bubbles into the melt, but also contributes to its overcooling, thereby fixing the bubble stream as gas holes. Given is an example of implementing this mechanism in the formation of "cell" holes that occur in casting forming rolls. Pointed out is the risk of accumulation of dehydrated clay in the circulating molding sand. The risk is confirmed by the results of investigations into the effect of "overburned" clay on the gas evolution in clay-bonded sands.

Foigt P. et al. Use of a New Inorganic Binder in the Production of Aluminum Cylinder Head Castings

Marukovich Y. I. et al. Thermodeformation Interaction between Casting and Water-Cooled Metal Mold
The conditions and kinetics of the change of gas gap between the crystallizing casting and thin-walled water cooled mold at continuously-iterative casting of cast iron billets by the method of freezing up (directed solidification) was analyzed.

Karanik Y.A. Shaped Castings with Mechanical Properties at the Level of Forgings and Rolled Stock
There has been developed a new method of making castings - squeeze casting with crystallization under pressure, which makes it possible to reduce casting mass by 10…30% by reducing wall thickness while preserving their structural strength, to make parts that are now produced from forgings and rolled stock with metal recovery of ? 0.5 by casting with high metal recovery (up to 0.95), to replace some welded structures with cast ones with improved performance characteristics. The method has been mastered in production conditions of steel ammunition castings, air transport parts, copper tips of oxygen-converter lances.

Fishman O.S. Choice of the Furnace for Swimming Trunks of an Aluminium Swarf

Sedov S. V. et al. Determining the Reliability of Foundry Equipment at the Design Stage
For designing the reliability of foundry equipment in the design stage, a special hardware-software complex has been developed, based on a series of research work and literature analysis. Application of the in industry, at research institutes and design offices will help provide the domestic industry with reliable foundry equipment.
