Afonaskin A.V. et al. Efficiency of Operation of DC Arc Furnaces of the New Generation in Making Iron and Steel

Tribushevsky V.L. et al. Steel Melting in an Arc Furnace Using Dolomite
One of the factors reducing DSP performance is the short service life of the lining. A process allowing to use unfired dolomite for hot passing the lining is proposed. Use of dolomite increases the content of iron in slag, and consequently its flowability, which favors the colder conditions of melting.

Kalenik O.N. et al. Methods of Reducing the Content of Secondary Impurities at Recycling Aluminum Waste
The main impurities that impair the quality of most of secondary alloys are Fe, Mg and Zn. Therefore in the production of secondary Al alloys from low-grade aluminum waste it is necessary to reduce these impurities to concentrations meeting the GOST. This was the objective of investigations. The developed variants of reducing the Fe, Mg and Zn concentrations can be realized in the recycling of dispersed Al alloy waste under the conditions of minimum production facilities to produce pig alloys or grade AB deoxidizers.

Vasilyev V.A. et al. Environmental Evaluation of Melting Processes
Results of investigations of dust and gas emissions from AC electric arc furnaces of the type DChM-10, crucible induction furnaces LED-25 and DC furnaces DP-10 are given. New process agents using porous metal powder materials can improve the ecological situation at metallurgical plants.

Ganiyev I.N. et al. Physico-Mechanical and Corrosion Properties of Al+2,18 Fe Alloy Inoculated with Yttrium<

br> Rare earth metals (REM) are promising alloying additives for aluminum alloys. To determine an optimum REM content in Al-Fe alloys, the physicochemical regularities of their oxidizing processes, mechanical and processing characteristics have been studied. Alloys inoculated with yttrium have been investigated; the mechanism of their oxidizing and oxide film formation has been investigated. It has been shown that alloying of an Al-Fe alloy of eutectic composition with yttrium considerably improves its heat resistance. Corrosion and electrochemical investigations have revealed that in respect of corrosion an addition of 0.1% yttrium is optimal, this additive quantity also improves the alloy's damping capacity.

21st Century Technologies

Skripnik S.V. et al. Production of Large-Size Shaped Castings by Centrifugal Electroslag Casting Using Remelted Metal Waste
Considered schemes of electrodross refusion of metallic wastes by means of usable and unusable welding rods in bifilar crucible furnace. Quoted parameters of crucible fusion and ladling of liquid metal with dross into permanent mould of centrifugal machine. Investigated quality of large-sized castings. Shown the possibility of attaining large-sized centrifugal electrodross castings weighing 0,45 t with an external surface of compound configuration.

Panasyugin A.S. The Adsorption-Catalytic Method of Gas Emission Cleaning
Use of most conventional methods of gas emission cleaning is not always economically justified, since beside the high cost of the cleaning systems themselves, expensive catalysts and complex equipment for their reclaiming are required. The low-temperature process conduction, absence of labor-intensive reclamation stages, and features of the process minimizing by-product formation predetermine the availability of the adsorption-catalytic method of gas emission cleaning.
