Marukovich E.I., Stetsenko V.Y., Stetsenko A.V. Iron-carbon alloy modification mechanisms
Modification of iron-carbon alloys is a nanostructured process in which Al, Ca, Mg, Ba, Ce modifying elements refine elemental nanocrystals of iron and graphite from adsorbed oxygen and sulfur atoms. This contributes to an increase in the concentration of nuclei of crystallization of ?-ferrite austenite, graphite during solidification of melts. The modification reduces the concentration of dissolved hydrogen, which increases the effectiveness of the modifying effect. Reducing the concentration of demodifying surface-active elements, degassing the melt, increasing heat removal contribute to increasing the degree of branching and compactness of graphite dendrites during crystallization of cast iron. The strongest modifying element of iron-carbon alloys is magnesium.

Korovin V.A., Maslov K.A., Belyaev S.V., Garchenko A.A. Increasing the service life of molds for casting of alloys
High requirements are imposed to chill molds served as a metal casting mold in metallurgy. It must withstand high temperature, pressure, ingot shrinkage and a large number of fillings. Methods for production of molds from grey iron additionally processed in a ladle according to two options are presented in comparison with the manufacturer's commercial technology.

Malinov L.S. Universality of the principle of using the internal resource of steels and cast irons to improve their properties
The results of research showing the universality of the principle of increasing the mechanical properties, including wear resistance, of steels and cast irons by using their internal resource by obtaining in their structure new methods of environmentally friendly isothermal, stepped and discontinuous quenching of metastable austenite undergoing dynamic deformation martensitic transformation (effect self-hardening under loading) are summarized.

Semenov K.G., Shchedrin A.V., Batyshev K.A. Investigation of the antifriction characteristics of copper-iron alloy
The tribotechnical characteristics of a low-alloyed two-component precipitation-hardening copper-iron alloy in the cast and heat-treated states are studied under conditions of dry and lubricated friction. The tests were carried out in order to estimate the anti-friction properties of the innovative Cu–2.65 % Fe alloy. It is shown that the antifriction properties of this alloy is higher in comparison with BrA9Zh4L or BrO10F bronzes.

Alina A.A., Kulikov V.Yu. Cold-hardening mixtures with a complex binder
The choice of an optimal composition of cold hardening mixtures made with the use of a complex binder consisting on resin and clay is considered. The introduction of clay into the composition of mixtures makes it possible to regulate the properties (duration of the induction period of hardening, strength) of cold hardening mixtures over a wide range.

Smykov A.F., Kuzovov S.S. A computer-assisted decision for forming the surface zone of castings in molds with a functional coating of different fractions
A calculation method for automated prediction of the solidifying alloy structure on the problem areas of shaped steel castings is presented. The method is developed on the basis of synthesis of solutions for thermal and crystallization problems of casting, taking into account the initial distribution of melt temperature after mold filling, relief and wettability of coating, heat exchange of the latter with the mold, as well as conditions of nucleation and growth of crystals. An influence of the mold surface microrelief on the formation of the dendritic structure on the surface zone of castings is considered.

The problem of insufficient quality of aluminum castings produced by the die casting is considered. The conventional methods of solving this problem by choosing appropriate parameters of the casting process are indicated. A universal method is proposed for improving the quality of castings by applying protective coatings to the shaping surfaces of molds by PVD cathode-ion bombardment is proposed. The results of experimental studies proving the effectiveness of the use of wear-resistant coatings made by cathode-ion bombardment are presented.

The main aspects of the development of technology for manufacturing ceramic rods based on fused quartz with the test results of their basic strength characteristics are presented. A comparative analysis of the main strength characteristics of ceramic rods based on fused quartz with the results of similar characteristics of rods based on electrocorundum manufactured by serial technology is carried out. The possibility of using the developed technologies for the manufacture and removal of ceramic rods based on fused quartz for the manufacture of castings of aircraft engine blades of equiaxed crystallization is evaluated.

The article explains the approach to the selection of the core-making technology for large cast engine blocks. The experience of successful foundries of the world on the introduction of modern core-making machines is described, the characteristics of the equipment are given.

Nikitin K.V., Barinov A.Yu., Zayzeva V.G., Dyachkov V.N., Nikitin V.I. Production of artistic castings using reverse engineering and additive technologies
The paper presents the results of obtaining castings for artistic purposes during the reconstruction of the memorial sign "To Warriors-Internationalists", located in the city of Samara. The main elements of the composition were tulips cast in bronze, a Kalashnikov assault rifle, a flask, a bowler hat and a memorial table with the names of internationalist soldiers. In order to reduce the lead time and reduce the cost of creating mathematical models of tulips, an automatic bowler hat and a flask, reverse engineering was used using the developed complex for 3D scanning. Burnt-out models were obtained by means of 3D printing using FDM technology.
