Panov A.G., Nofal A. Why genetic engineering technologies are not widely used in the production of iron castings
The paper considers the modern understanding of genetic engineering in iron foundry production, present and promising technologies of preparation and modifying of iron melts based on it. The reasons for poor development of genetic engineering technologies in domestic iron foundry production are analyzed and directions for their elimination are suggested.
Keywords: Cast iron, foundry, genetic engineering, technology.

Kidalov N.A., Adamova A.S., Grigoreva N.V., Kim M.V. Non-stick coating for casting molds
In the foundry, to improve the quality of the surface of castings, reduce burn-on and roughness, non-stick paints and coatings are used. This article discusses the properties of a water-based non-stick coating with zircon concentrate and with the addition of activated clay, which improves the technological and non-stick properties of the coating.
Keywords: Burn-on, non-stick coating, non-stick paint, bentonite, activation.

Gutko Yu.I., Shinkareva T.A., Taranenko N.A. Comparative analysis of quartz sands for furan- and Cold box amin processes
The properties of core mixtures based on resin binders prepared using quartz sands of different grain size, are considered. It was shown that the quartz sands of 2K2O2O2 grade (GOST 2138-91) are most suitable for iron casting by the Furan and Cold box amin processes.
Keywords: Core mixtures, binders, quartz sands, granularity, properties.

Leushin I.O., Titov A.V., Maslov K.A. The use of waste from various industries as softening additives for foundry cores
A review of materials obtained from industrial waste, suitable for reducing the residual strength of hard-to-knock-out core mixtures, has been carried out. Additional requirements for softening additives are formulated.
Key words: Production waste, liquid glass core mixtures, core knockout, softening additives.

Feklin N.D., Svinoroev Yu.A., Gutko Yu.I., Batyshev K.A. Vacuum-film molding with «paired models»
It was shown that the implementation of the vacuum-film molding using "paired models" would allow foundries to take a leading position in the market of body castings and increase the profitability of their production. This is achieved by using molds with a vertical split, which allows a smooth filling of the mold with liquid melt from the bottom up accompanied with the displacement of all gases and inclusions into the areas of rising heads and deadheads, which significantly reduces the probability of the formation of gas shells and the appearance of non-metallic inclusions. The use of model kits fastened coaxially on the opposite sides of one vacuum chamber ("paired models") allows one to perform simultaneously operations for the manufacture of two half-forms and to halve the number of operations and mould operators. The use of semi-containers instead of standard flask molds during vacuum-film molding allows one to create a uniform vacuum throughout the entire volume of the mold and to reduce the consumption of molding sand and synthetic film.
Keywords: Casting, casting technology, molding, flasks, vacuum-film molding, paired model.

Kipnis L.S., Malashkevichute-Briyan E.I., Medvedev I.E., Tulegenova Sh.N. The use of cooling bodies to eliminate shrinkage porosity in castings
The use of external and internal cooling bodies in castings made in the course of different casting processes is considered. Particular attention is paid to the lost foam casting, when internal cooling microbodies are placed inside polystyrene foam models.
Keywords: Castings, cooling bodies, shrinkage porosity, quality, lost foam casting.

Monastyrsky A.V., Vlasov Yu.B. PoligonSoft for foundry
The article describes the system of casting computer simulation software PoligonSoft. The main features of the system and work stages are described. Particular attention is paid to the features of the latest version of the software product: what's new in the flow and stress solvers, what's new in the preprocessor and mesh generator. The analysis of the convergence of the simulation results and the collection of experimental data was carried out.
Keywords: PoligonSoft, casting, foundry, computer simulation, sand casting, investment casting, misrun, hot tearing, filling, stress.

Bezpalko V.I., Batyshev K.A. Fillability of molds during molding with crystallization under pressure
The filling of thin channels of a technological sample of a mold during molding with crystallization under pressure is considered including simulation using the LVM Flow program.
Keywords: Fillability, extrusion, mold, casting-sample, punch, die, melt, simulation.
