Timchenko S.L., Zadorozhnyi N.A. Particular qualities of the AK12 alloy structure formed during crystallization under the influence of current
In this article the structure of the aluminum alloy of AK12, the process of crystallization is occurring in sand molds under the direct the electric current of I = 96 A is being considered. With the help of X-RAY diffraction analysis the changes in the shape and size of the diffraction lines for aluminum and silicon have been revealed. This fact indicates that the changes in the alloy’s structure were caused by electric current. At the crystallization of an electroconductive alloy which is carried out under the influence of the electric current there is a formation of anisotropic texture which significantly differs from initial texture. For all observed crystallographic directions, both aluminum and silicon intensity and width of lines are larger for those samples which crystallization is occurring under the current, regularity in layout of crystals in polycrystalline substance is being manifested. Research in a microstructure of the alloy revealed the decrease in the size of crystals.
Key words: Alloy, structure, crystallization, electric current, diffraction, dendritic parameter.

Marukovich Y.I., Stetsenko V.Y. Silumin casting. New approaches
For improving silumin casting properties, casing methods by accelerated solidification are proposed. One of them, quench solidification casting, is environmentally safe, requires no melt inoculation, enhances the dispersibility of phase components, and casting strength. Antifriction silumins produced by quench solidification casting can be successfully used to replace bronze.
Key words: Antifriction silumin, accelerated solidification, dispersibility, strength, crystallizer, bronze, cast irons, steel.

Varfolomeyev M.S., Moiseyev V.S., Shcherbakova G.I. Improving surface layer quality of cast products from titanium alloys
The work presents the results of investigations into the effect of a highly heat-resistant ceramic mold on surface defects of cast products from titanium alloys. Discussed is the possibility of using thermochemically resistant corundum molds with an alumo-yttrium binder for improving the surface layer quality of castings. X-ray and electron-microscopy analysis of the surface of test pieces from VT5L titanium alloy, as well measurement of hardness by its cross-section were conducted. Use of foundry molds that are thermochemically resistant to titanium alloys under the conditions of their high-temperature pouring in vacuum minimizes the physicochemical interaction and significantly reduces the hard-to-remove gas-saturated (alphized) layer on products, thereby enhancing their service properties. The developed technology is a promising direction in precision intricate-profile casting of critical parts from titanium alloys.
Key words: Titanium alloys, surface quality, alphized layer, ceramic foundry mold, alumo-yttrium binder.

Kolyadov E.V., Gerasimov V.V., Visik E.M., Mezhin Y.A. Casting by directional solidification with a controlled temperature gradient at the crystallization front
The article discusses the basic parameters of directional solidification, has a decisive influence on the structure, properties and defects produced castings. The advantages of using programmable thermal insulation screens for casting castings of complex geometry, in order to improve the homogeneity of the structure, grinding of structural components, reducing casting defects. It shows the macrostructure of castings of complex geometry obtained with and without screens. Designed axial temperature gradient at the crystallization front.
Key words: Directional solidification, single crystal casting installation, control system, temperature gradient, heat shield, the macrostructure.

Ovcharenko P.G., Chekmyshev K.E., Makhneva T.M. The formation features of contact area between mounting elements and swamping melt by manufacturing of composition castings
The parameters of the contact area which formed between the mounting elements (stainless steel) and backing metal (cast iron) in composite castings produced by casting on consumable pattern are presented in paper. It is reflecting the influence of the position of the mounting elements in the castings, the temperature of the swamping melt and heat flows on the formation of bimetallic compound within investigation system.

Morozov V.A. On the practice of expanded pattern casting
Discussed are peculiarities of manufacturing hollow cylinder, thick-wall pipe, and blindbottom type castings by the expanded pattern casting method. Dimensions of gating system elements, foam pattern and gas-escape channel designs are given.
Key words: Expanded pattern casting, gating systems, foam patterns.

Grachiov A.N., Leushin I.O., Leushina L.I. Utilization scheme for industrial waste at foundries
An attempt has been made to work out a procedure for utilizing foundry-and-metallurgy waste, which is presented as a concept of its recycling. Peculiarities of working with such waste have been analyzed. An example of using the concept is given.
Key words: Foundry-and-metallurgy technologies, recycling of industrial waste, ecological requirements, laboratory tests.
