Makiyenko V.M. et al. Structure Formation in Railcar Brake Shoe Cast Iron when Inoculated with Zirconium
Structure formation in railcar brake shoe cast iron when inoculated with zirconium has been studied. Zirconium refines and degasses cast iron, refining the graphite phase.

Mikhailovsky V.M. et al. Chill Problem in Iron Castings and Methods of Eliminating It
Chill in iron castings is discussed. To eliminate it, use of either heat treatment or graphitizing inoculation is proposed.

Andreyev A.K. et al. Technological Possibilities of Enhancing Cold Resistance of Steel Castings
It is shown that the service reliability of cast steel at low climatic temperatures can be improved by microalloying with strong carbide-forming elements. Practical results of the effect of heat treatment and thrmocycling on the cold resistance of castings are given. It has been found that the effectiveness of steel inoculation with alkaline-earth metals is determined by the degree of its killedness.

Afonaskin A.V. Special Features of Technology of Melting and Casting Grade 110Г13 Steel
It is shown that the inoculation and heat treatment refine the grain and enhance crack resistance and wear resistance of castings made of 110Г13 steel. The work done has increased the wear resistance of tractor caterpillar belts by 20…30%.

Rechkalov A.V. et al. Special Technological Features of Eliminating Defects in Magnesium Alloy Castings
It is suggested that defects in magnesium alloy castings should be eliminated by welding. Based on the studies of susceptibility to cracking and mechanical testing of weldings performed, optimum compositions of welding wire are recommended.

Gomelsky Yu. S. Uniformity of Measurements of Molding and Core Sand Gas Permeability in the Foundry
A number of instruments being currently used for measuring gas permeability are discussed. Their compliance with the uniformity of measurements requirements has been evaluated. Quantitative evaluations of the dependency (spreading) of readings on the temperature and absolute air pressure under testing conditions for various measurements of gas permeability are given, and a method of compensating the spreading by bringing the measurement results to normal conditions is presented. The necessity of:
— bringing the gas permeability measurement results to normal conditions and fixing this requirement in normative documents;
— developing a new generation of gas permeability measurements meeting the uniformity of measurements requirements and convenient in operation has been substantiated.

Polonnikov A.B. et al. Development of a Bundled Software for Ecological Evaluation of Imported Foundry Equipment
Use of foreign equipment at Russia's Foundries is discussed. It is recommended to consider the particularities of ecological norms in Russia and foreign countries.

Nikulin L.V. et al. Inoculation of Aluminium-Silicon Alloys in Die Casting
The article discusses the effect of changing the morphology of solid solution dendrites in specimens when an Al-Ti-B master alloy is added to the melt. The effect of inoculation on the refinement of primary aluminium crystals in castings, and improving the soundness of die-cast cylinders made of an experimental alloy is shown. The properties of the experimental alloy and standard AK12 alloy at operation temperatures of the cylinders in products are compared. The mechanism of the inoculant's effect on the structure of AK8M2БР alloy is discussed.

Agalakov V.V. et al. New Magnesium Alloys for Die Casting of Automobile Parts
The article brings data on studying the mechanical properties of a magnesium alloy of the new generation designed for making automobile parts by die casting. The effect of the main alloying complex on the strength and ductility characteristics of the alloy at temperatures of 20, 150 and 250°C has been determined. Effect of calcium addition to reduce the oxidability of magnesium alloys has been studied. Creep resistance test results of the experimental alloy as compared to other die-cast alloys are presented.

Dubrovin V.K. Investment Casting in Ceramic Molds with an Accelerated Production Cycle and Enhanced Heat Resistance
Use of an alumoboronphosphate concentrate solution as a fixer for a water glass coating, and use of dispersed quartz sand suspension or electrodinas as a filler will allow to considerably accelerate the ceramic mold production, improve the process characteristics of combined ethylsilicate-waterglass shells and the quality of castings produced therein.
